The Mailbag: When Is Robin Ventura Going To Be Fired?

Welcome to The Chicago Homer’s Mailbag. It runs once a week unless it doesn’t, and in it I answer questions from readers via Twitter or email. The questions can be about any damn thing you please, and there likely isn’t a question I won’t answer. There may be questions I can’t answer, but I’ll try.

If you’d like to submit a question for the next edition of the mailbag it’s pretty simple. Either ask the question on Twitter using the #AskTCH hashtag — as long as you use the hashtag I will see it — or send an email to TCHMailbag@gmail.com.

There’s No Reason To Play Dayan Viciedo Every Day

dayanviciedo

The MLB Trade Deadline came and went without the White Sox making a deal, which means that Dayan Viciedo will likely spend the rest of the 2014 season in Chicago. But just because he’s still here doesn’t mean he needs to keep getting regular playing time.

To be blunt, there’s simply no reason to keep playing him now that you aren’t showcasing him for a possible trade. The White Sox have a better option on their bench names Moises Sierra.

The Mariners Are Still Interested In Dayan Viciedo

dayanviciedo

Before the season started there were rumors that the Mariners were interested in Dayan Viciedo, and while those rumors never developed into anything aside from preliminary discussions, that interest has not died.

I guess Seattle kept watching Viciedo through April and then stopped on May 1.

The Avisail Garcia News Is A Downer

avisail

Today was going so well.

I woke up this morning at 6am — did you know there’s a 6am? Turns out there is — in preparation for my guest spot co-hosting McNeil and Spiegel on The Score. (Which, by the way, was an experience I really enjoyed, and who knows, maybe I’ll be back on again.)

Of course, the lead story this morning was the injury to Avisail Garcia, which Spiegel disagreed with because we’d all been told it wasn’t a big deal. Garcia hurt his shoulder diving for a ball, but all the x-rays were clean and the team was calling it “jammed.” He was just going to miss a couple of days.

Then the show ended and minutes after getting home, sitting down and firing up the computer, the news came.

The Mailbag: Yes, We Have A Mailbag Now

mailbag

When I was writing over at The Champaign Room I started a weekly mailbag post, and enjoyed it. While some of the questions got a bit repetitive, it provided the chance to write about things other than Illinois sports from time to time.

Believe me, when you’re writing about Illinois sports constantly, you really look to find ways to write about anything else occasionally. Your sanity demands it.

Well, Chicago sports doesn’t have the same effect because I only write about whatever the hell I want when I want, but I still enjoyed doing that damn mailbag. So I’ve started one here now. This is it! The first one! You are reading history!
