The Mailbag: Let’s Talk Pizza

Welcome to The Chicago Homer’s Mailbag. It runs once a week unless it doesn’t, and in it I answer questions from readers via Twitter or email. The questions can be about any damn thing you please, and there likely isn’t a question I won’t answer. There may be questions I can’t answer, but I’ll try.

If you’d like to submit a question for the next edition of the mailbag it’s pretty simple. Either ask the question on Twitter using the #AskTCH hashtag — as long as you use the hashtag I will see it — or send an email to TCHMailbag@gmail.com.

Conor Gillaspie Is No ‘Slap-Hitter’

Conor-Gillaspie1

On Monday evening, as happens so often during any edition of the Boers and Bernstein Show, there was a caller on the line with a stupid question. Well, actually, the question itself wasn’t entirely stupid, but the voice and delivery of the man asking it made it seem stupid.

The man wanted to know, with Paul Konerko retiring after this season, if the White Sox should move Conor Gillaspie to first base to allow Matt Davidson to take over at third. It was at this point that Dan Bernstein said something that caught my attention, because as often as I disagree with Bernstein on many different topics, he’s normally much smarter when it comes to baseball.

Conor Gillaspie Could Be Changing The Plan

conorgillaspie

Conor Gillaspie’s White Sox career seemed to end on December 16, 2013. That was the day Rick Hahn pulled off his second trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks in less than a week, surprising a lot of people when he sent Addison Reed to the desert for third base prospect Matt Davidson.

Davidson was one of the top prospects in Arizona’s system, and the Sox had given up their closer to get him. It seemed obvious at the time that Davidson was meant to be the third baseman of the future on the south side, and Conor Gillaspie’s days with the team were numbered.

But it doesn’t look like Gillaspie is ready to leave just yet.

POTD: Conor Gillaspie Is All Smiles

Screen Shot 2014-05-01 at 10.48.36 AM

Conor Gillaspie is never happy about anything ever. He could hit a walk-off grand slam in Game 7 of the World Series and he’d round the bases looking like Eeyore after Eeyore found out his entire family died in a fire.

The Mailbag: Yes, We Have A Mailbag Now

mailbag

When I was writing over at The Champaign Room I started a weekly mailbag post, and enjoyed it. While some of the questions got a bit repetitive, it provided the chance to write about things other than Illinois sports from time to time.

Believe me, when you’re writing about Illinois sports constantly, you really look to find ways to write about anything else occasionally. Your sanity demands it.

Well, Chicago sports doesn’t have the same effect because I only write about whatever the hell I want when I want, but I still enjoyed doing that damn mailbag. So I’ve started one here now. This is it! The first one! You are reading history!
