Bears vs. Jaguars: What I’ll Be Watching Tonight

NFL: Chicago Bears-Training Camp

If you watch preseason football as nothing more than just a football game, you will be bored out of  your mind. By the time the second half starts the field will be filled with players you’ve never heard of that probably won’t make the team, and then that voice begins creeping into your mind, asking you just what it is you’re doing with your life.

And it’s very important to shut that voice up and stuff it back in its little hole where it minds its own god damn business. So how do you do that? It’s simple! You don’t watch tonight’s Bears game to watch the actual game, you just look for the interesting things inside the game.

The Mailbag: Sox Prospects Ain’t Gettin No Respect!

carlosrodon

Welcome to The Chicago Homer’s Mailbag. It runs once a week unless it doesn’t, and in it I answer questions from readers via Twitter or email. The questions can be about any damn thing you please, and there likely isn’t a question I won’t answer. There may be questions I can’t answer, but I’ll try.

If you’d like to submit a question for the next edition of the mailbag it’s pretty simple. Either ask the question on Twitter using the #AskTCH hashtag — as long as you use the hashtag I will see it — or send an email to TCHMailbag@gmail.com.

The Mailbag: Yes, We Have A Mailbag Now

mailbag

When I was writing over at The Champaign Room I started a weekly mailbag post, and enjoyed it. While some of the questions got a bit repetitive, it provided the chance to write about things other than Illinois sports from time to time.

Believe me, when you’re writing about Illinois sports constantly, you really look to find ways to write about anything else occasionally. Your sanity demands it.

Well, Chicago sports doesn’t have the same effect because I only write about whatever the hell I want when I want, but I still enjoyed doing that damn mailbag. So I’ve started one here now. This is it! The first one! You are reading history!

Don’t Get Caught Up In Jared Allen’s Sack Numbers

jaredallen

The news that the Bears had signed Jared Allen didn’t come as that much of a surprise to me this morning. When the Bears announced that they had restructured Jay Cutler’s deal, moving $5 million into the signing bonus to free up about another $4 million in cap space this season, I knew something was up.

They already had enough cap room to sign all their draft picks, and if they just wanted to give themselves flexibility during the season, why would they do it in March?

No, they had to be trying to sign somebody, and Allen was the only player left on the market that would command that kind of room.
