Grading Jay: How Bad Was It?

There’s a rather simple narrative in Chicago right now when it comes to the season-opening loss to Buffalo, and it’s JAY CUTLER’S FAULT. This isn’t entirely wrong, as Cutler threw two interceptions in the Buffalo game, and both led to Buffalo points. In fact, as I went over yesterday, every Bears turnover led to points for the Bills.

But while one of the interceptions Jay threw was terrible, the first one wasn’t really clear until looking at the tape. After watching the play a few times, I feel confident that the interception wasn’t on Cutler, and that he actually made the right decision. It was somebody else who screwed up.

If you watch preseason football as nothing more than just a football game, you will be bored out of  your mind. By the time the second half starts the field will be filled with players you’ve never heard of that probably won’t make the team, and then that voice begins creeping into your mind, asking you just what it is you’re doing with your life.

And it’s very important to shut that voice up and stuff it back in its little hole where it minds its own god damn business. So how do you do that? It’s simple! You don’t watch tonight’s Bears game to watch the actual game, you just look for the interesting things inside the game.
